Armidale’s Home Grown Garden Tour was back in Feburary 2024!
The event was organised by the Armidale Food Group (Nikki, Mac, Sujata, Amy and Jen), many of whom are involved in the Armidale Climate and Health Project (UNE One Health) and connected to Sustainable Living Armidale.
On Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th February ticket holders were invited into the backyards of Armidale’s and surrounds local food growers in Armidale and Invergowrie. The initiative is clearly linked to Phase 2 of the Armidale Climate and Health Project: to improve local community food infrastructure in the region.
The event: Home owners shared stories and ideas for growing food in our unique region. We had 8 unique gardens across the weekend, from large holdings 15 minutes outside town to small cottage gardens in the process of converting lawn to food. There were workshops on native food growing and how to making a wicking bed as well. Across the weekend people had the chance to visit gardens at their own pace with all 8 gardens open both Saturday and Sunday in either the morning (10-12.30pm) or afternoon (1.30-4pm) sessions.
Tickets included full information, map and schedule were available or in person at Readers Companion. The cost was only $5 if you travel by bicycle or motorbike, or $20 for car of people riding together to encourage car-pooling. This year we sold a record number of tickets and had hundreds of people out over the weekend.
