Research Trip to Sydney’s Community Meal Provisioning Initiatives

The Week of 17-21 June 2024 two of the ACHP co-facilitators, Drs Jennifer Hamilton and Nicolette Larder and, supported by the RA Zoe de Castro, we travelled to Sydney to interview organisers of Community Meal Provisioning Initiatives. This CMPI category we separated out as a sub-category from research work on Community Food Initiatives; we wanted to focus on meal provision.

Though we suffered through serious bouts of winter illness, we had an amazing trip and learned a lot about the different and diverse community cafes, catering companies, soup kitchens, home-meal providers, community dinners, and community-centre linked gardens around the city.

Over the next six to nine months we will be processing the data and then bringing it back to Armidale.

The aim of this work is to build new community food infrastructure for Armidale that supports community and planetary health. It is funded by the University of New England’s Internal Funding Scheme.
